The Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, also known as the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, is tasked with addressing and resolving a wide range of issues concerning social and humanitarian affairs. The council has, multiple times in the past, intervened in issues regarding the distribution of resources, territory, and other widely valued commodities. Its primary objective leans towards the creation of frameworks and protocols to solve issues regarding social and humanitarian conventions. Apart from the General Assembly, its global precedence on the international community and multiple interventions into social disputes in the past place it as a highly valued UN organ.

Achieving Gender Equality in the Context of the Climate Crisis

Gender inequality needs no introduction - it has always been a prominent issue in society. Whilst few may be familiar with the impacts of climate change on gender inequality, there is a growing base of evidence that shows this isn’t as a direct result of environmental impacts, but rather due to socio-cultural structures that have deprived women of access to resources. As an example, most cultures have traditionally restricted women to household duties, making their lifestyles comparatively harder with the growing impact of climate change on their livelihoods. Delegates will be tasked with tackling the multifaceted issue of gender inequality, and will be challenged to link it directly with the impacts of the climate crisis.
